Community of Practice

Presentation in:

Sarah Griffin-Mason, will present an overview of how freelance translators and interpreters can contribute to the construction of an international professional ‘Community of Practice’ that will help them to learn and pass on the many skills, capacities and attitudes needed to flourish and thrive in a largely unregulated marketplace.

Sarah firmly believes that this professional and positive Community of Practice will form the backbone to a strong freelance community of translators and interpreters in the coming decades, guiding and protecting the professions into the future.  Sarah will define exactly what is meant by a ‘Community of Practice’ before exploring the ways that various individuals and entities are working in the right direction, providing examples of contributions by fellow professionals at all levels: from individual translators and interpreters, through related entities and companies, to the leadership level of various translator and interpreter institutions.

Sarah will explore the many ways in which individual translators and interpreters can contribute to strengthening our professional community and improving our professional practice, while also projecting a positive impression outwards onto the wider world in order to encourage public recognition of the true value and expertise of our fellow professionals.
