BIO

Director of the AVANCA Film Festival since 1997 and of the scientific conference AVANCA|CINEMA since 2010.

He has a PhD in film studies, teaches at the University of Algarve and integrates the research centre CIAC. Previously he taught at the public universities of Aveiro, Vila Real and was Director of the Department of Theatre and Film at ESAP, where he coordinated the post-graduate programme in Film and Audiovisual Studies at the Figueira da Foz campus. He produced and co-directed the first Portuguese animation feature film "Até ao Tecto do Mundo".

As a director and producer, he won about two hundred prizes in festivals in the five continents. Member of the Management Bodies of the Portuguese Film Academy, among other organisations, he is the national coordinator of "INPUT-TV" and co-editor of the "Internacional Journal of Cinema".

ABSTRACT

Among private audiences, guests and juries, film festivals have new subtitling requirements. These challenges are amplified by the new cinematographic and audiovisual media supports. We intend to take an approach to the specifics and what seems to remain constant among the concerns that continue to link the work of event organizers, translators and subtitlers.
