BIO

Director of the AVANCA Film Festival since 1997 and of the scientific conference AVANCA|CINEMA since 2010.

He has a PhD in film studies and teaches at the public universities of Aveiro and Vila Real. Director of the Department of Theatre and Film of ESAP – Porto School of Arts, he coordinates the post-graduate programme in Film and Audiovisual Studies at the Figueira da Foz campus. He has produced and co-directed the first Portuguese animated feature film "Até ao Tecto do Mundo" (To the top of the world).

As director and producer, he has won about two hundred awards in festivals on five continents. Board member of the FPCC – Portuguese Federation of Film Societies, the Portuguese Film Academy, among other organisations, national coordinator of "INPUT-TV" and co-editor of the "Internacional Journal of Cinema".

ABSTRACT

Among private audiences, guests and juries, film festivals have new subtitling requirements. These challenges are amplified by the new cinematographic and audiovisual media supports. We intend to take an approach to the specifics and what seems to remain constant among the concerns that continue to link the work of event organizers, translators and subtitlers.
