ROUND TABLE: EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN AVT

BIO

Rosário Valadas Vieira, a passionate linguist with over thirty years of experience in AVT, started her professional career at TDM - Teledifusão de Macau in the 80s. She then relocated back to Portugal in 1988 to work for RTP, the Portuguese TV channel. She is the Managing Director at Sintagma Traduções Lda. since 1993, a company that works mainly in the Audio-visual market – subtitling, dubbing and voice-over. Rosário has also been working alongside Universidade de Lisboa – Faculdade de Letras – to lecture seminars in “Mestrado em Tradução” (Master's Degree in Translation) – i.e. Legendagem (Localization). She is also a Subtitling Instructor since 1997 (APT, Sintagma, University of Lisbon - FLUL). Consequently, every year, the best Translation students are selected from FLUL and other Universities to be part of our internship program and, after a thorough evaluation, some are selected to provide translation and subtitling services. Her main interests include but are not limited to: investigation into the Portuguese Language, cinema, theatre and travelling.
