Medical translation as a specialization: training challenges and how to overcome them
Presentation in:
Medical translation is one of the areas in constant growth in translation. Nevertheless, the availability of formal and even informal training in medical translation is sparse, especially in Portugal. As very few translators have any medical or allied training, translating medical texts is often a challenge. Specifically, the prior knowledge of terminology, phraseology and normal and pathological physiology are key aspects that should be enhanced if a translator aims to perform high quality medical translations.
My aim is to briefly discuss formal and informal training opportunities for aspiring medical translators both online and offline and give some tools for practicing translators in English to European Portuguese language pair.
